Supporting Walls

Supporting walls have always fascinated me. They are the meeting point of traditional customs, art, and the physical necessities of agriculture or urbanism. Each wall reflects both the know-how of its creator and the context in which, for which, it was created. Creativity is never as interesting as when it is bound by counstraints. Those walls have become part of the heritage of many areas around the world. So much so that we rarely even give them any attention. The way these walls are lived in, tagged by local residents, or falling from neglect is the miror image of what led to their creation. As the need fades, so does the maintenance. And the decay of these walls often tells as much about those who live next to them as their construction told us about their ancestors.
