#72. 90 is NOT for reach

UPDATE : A summary of all this website’s reviews of the Sony NEX-5n and NEX-7 is now available.

For my review of the NEX-5N camera with Leica & Zeiss lenses, I was loaned a Leica Summarit-M 75/2.5 by co-author Caroline and really like it a lot. It made me long for a longer ๐Ÿ˜‰ lens, my current gear maxing out at 50mm, save for a unwieldy but superb Zeiss Contax Sonnar 135/2.8.

Having read great things about the Elmarit-M 90/2.8, I headed strait to Marco Schouten’s Leicaphile Ali-Baba cave, and Mr Schouten found me found an A/B condition at a good price. The lens has been with me for 30 minutes now and it’s love at first sight.

If you’re old enough to be a Friends fan, you’ll know what I mean: “Oh .. My .. God!” ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ll keep this one short. So you will do the review on this one ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, what’s your opinion on this lens?

I like it a lot and agree with all the reviewers have written about it, except for one point. 90 is not for reach. You don’t buy this lens to get closer to things. You buy it for its perspective, for the way it renders and the look it gives to your scene. TO me, it’s just lovely.

Impressive. You might compare with the Tele-Elmarit 90 for ergonomics.

Thank you Franck. I will as soon as I lay my hands on the Tele-Elmarit. Another I’d *really* love to try is the Macro-Elmar 90. If anyone wants to send me one, I’d be happy to test it, hint hint ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • pascaljappy says:

Thanks Frank. Would love to, if I could get my hands on a Tele-Elmarit ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hey !
I cant send you my Macro Elmar 90mm f4 but I can assure you that is is absolutly great and very tiny + lightweight ๐Ÿ˜‰ I came here from the sonyalpharumors site after reading the articlel about manuell lenses on the Nexes and your comment. Nice Blog.
I send my own experiences about Contax Gs and Leica Ms to the sonyalpharumors blog, so maybe we will read there again ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Have a nice weekend !

    • pascaljappy says:

Hi Ingo ! I’m very jealous of your Macro-Elmar 90mm/4, that’s for sure ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you want we can exchange lenses for a few weeks.

I look forward to reading your updates on SAR.

      Have a great week-end,
      Pascal

If you come to Germany in the future just drop me a line.
Maybe we can meet up and have some fun with “lens-p**n”, haha.

(Do you see my e-mail adress from the comment?
